I am looking for an update on my hairstyle, and need tips on product.?

I have a slightly shorter than shoulder length layered bob with side swept bangs. I like to wear it straight, plus my hair doesn't really hold curl to begin with. I have this vision of it straight, but piece-ier, kind of chunky I suppose. But I have absolutely no idea how to go about achieving this! I know it is going to take some kind of product, so does anyone have any suggestions of a) what kind of product (gel, mousse, hairspray, etc...) and b) brands that work better than others? Also, any tips on how to apply said product would be much appreciated!!!
