A little bit of information on Australias history would be helpful!?

i am doing an assignment where i have to turn an australian poem into a short story. My story is going to be about an aborignial settlement with an old broken down school with hardly any money and a not so good education. Then white settlers come and a white englishman takes over the school and is the authority there. I am needing to place this story in a specific time frame and i am wondering; what year would have this taken place? where a white man takes over an aboriginies old school? in western australia, australia.
